This Week I Learned: Datadog timeshifts let you compare now to the past [2022–02–04]

This is pretty awesome for monitoring something that’s supposed to ratchet up or down when you don’t know how fast it will move, but it definitely shouldn’t turn and go the other way.

I’m using it to check that a deprecated feature is dropping in usage.

Graph (for manual eyeballing):

I want it to be less used than yesterday, i.e. difference ≤ 0 ✅

Monitor (for alerts):

if the usage diff is > 0 then alert me
